Details of Mari Okada's new film were revealed at an event hosted by Studio MAPPA recently. It is based on the original anime Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō ( Alice and Therese's Illusion Factory ). The studio also presented a second trailer, which can be viewed below.

Originally, MAPPA announced the film in 2021. Mari Okada is both directing and writing this mystery anime film. Tadashi Hirsmatsu will serve as assistant director, while Yuriko Ishii will contribute character design and serve as chief animation director. Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō opens in Japanese cinemas on September 15, 2023 .

It stars Junya Enoki as Masamune Kikuiri, Reina Ueda as Atsumi Sagami and Misaki Kuno as the mysterious girl Itsumi. It is still uncertain whether the film will also be shown in cinemas in Germany.

Middle school student Masamune Kikuiri lives in an area where all exits from the city have been blocked by a steel mill explosion. Eager to return to normal, the townspeople must not change. Therefore, they live their lives in a state of perpetual stagnation. When his classmate Atsumi Sagami takes Masamue to the blast furnace of the destroyed steel mill, the two find a wild girl there. Her name is Itsumi, but she cannot speak. This chance encounter, coupled with the "love impulse" of the girls and boys who are ready for a change, begins to upset the balance of the world.
