After a long wait, the remake of the fourth part of the Japanese zombie horror series Resident Evil was released on March 24, 2023 for PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as Xbox Series X|S and PC. After just a few hours, the new game was able to break all records for Capcom.

The Resident Evil series is all about a world where bioweapons are used regularly. Since the release of Resident Evil 1 in 1996, various spin-offs and remakes have appeared in addition to eight main parts. As the first third-person game in the series , Resident Evil 4 has been hugely popular since its release in 2005, which is why Capcom first ported it to newer consoles in 2016. Big footsteps in which the remake is now following and just as high expectations among the players.

And by all appearances, the game lives up to expectations, because the numbers speak for themselves: On the one hand, the SteamDB rating is currently 94.88%. That puts it higher than the previously released Resident Evil Village (94.28%) and only 2019's Resident Evil 2 Remake tops that with 95.78%. The rating is calculated from the reviews of the users. Also, after a week, the game is still in the top 10 most played games on Steam.

But above all, the number of players should speak volumes – even if you no longer need ribbons to save in the remake. Because just one day after publication   168,191 players played Resident Evil 4 Remake simultaneously. That's almost twice as many as in the Village mentioned above, making it by far the largest launch in the entire series.

In Resident Evil 4, the character Leon S. Kennedy, known from the second offshoot, returns. He gets the order to travel to Spain and find out the whereabouts of the president's daughter. During the search he then comes across the Los Illuminados – a sect that wants to control the locals with the help of a parasite. So if you haven't played the game yet, now is the perfect opportunity to catch up.
