February 20, 2023

And again, Netflix is working on creating another anime adaptation for its portfolio. A post on Twitter has now confirmed this: The long-awaited anime series PLUTO based on the award-winning manga by Naoki Urasawa and Osamu Tezuka will be released on Netflix later this year.

After no new details on the anime adaptation have followed since the announcement at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2017, Netflix is getting the ball rolling again. Accordingly, the streaming giant will exclusively include the mystery series PLUTO in its catalog in autumn 2023 . The anime is being produced in collaboration with GENCO, Tezuka Productions and M2.

Mangaka Urasawa has previously spoken out, saying that he applauds the courage of everyone who takes up the challenge of making anime based on PLUTO . He is very excited about the creation of the new series and hopes that Osamu Tezuka's message will reach the world.

Three roles from the Japanese cast are also already known: Shinshu Fuji as Face, Yoko Hikasa as Atom and Minori Suzuki as Uran.

PLUTO is somewhat of a reinterpretation of the world portrayed by Osamu Tezuka in his Astro Boy manga. The series was published in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine between 2003 and 2009 and was distributed in Germany by Carlsen Manga .
