Xbox Series X/S: Raytracing – these games use the graphics feature
Ray tracing is one of the most spectacular features of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S: The technology for calculating light makes reflections and shadows look more realistic and brings games a little closer to photorealism. We tell you in which games for the Microsoft console you can see the feature in action.
Even though the list has grown, a lot of games with ray tracing are still not available for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, even 2 years after the introduction of the next-gen consoles. The main reason: the feature is power-hungry and only runs smoothly if elsewhere Performance is saved – for example in the resolution or frame rate. In addition, it's only really worthwhile in those games in which shadows and reflective surfaces appear at all. It turns out that the less powerful Series S usually doesn't get a ray tracing mode, even if the Series X offers it.

What is ray tracing?
Ray tracing simulates light and shadows in a digitally created scene by emitting virtual "rays of light" and following their path through the scene and bouncing off objects. The process delivers much more realistic results than other methods of light calculation and reacts dynamically to the environment – your character and all of its movements are reflected, for example, in surfaces that have ray tracing reflections. The technology has been common in films for a long time, but is still new in games. The reason: Games don't just have to calculate an image once, but dozens of times per second – graphics cards have only recently been able to do this without sacrificing too much game flow.
These gaming highlights feature ray tracing on Xbox Series X
In our list, we will first show you game highlights that support ray tracing for Xbox Series X/S. This is followed by an outlook on other upcoming games that should support the feature.
The role-playing game from CD Projekt Red, which is set in the dark future, had to deal with numerous technical problems at the time of release and came without an explicit next-gen version. Many patches later, a lot of problems have been fixed and a version of "Cyberpunk 2077" specially for Series X/S has also been released. The Series X supports ray-traced shadows if you can live with 30 frames per second.

"Control – Ultimate Edition"
"Control" is one of the most impressive representatives of ray tracing. Even if the halving of the frame rate to 30 frames per second in RT mode hurts in the third-person shooter: the countless exact reflections and transparency effects compensate with a completely new optical experience from Remedys Game For the "Next Gen" functions, the "Ultimate Edition" is required, which also contains the DLCs.
"Forza Horizon 5"
Microsoft's very successful in-house racing game brand "Forza Horizon" also comes with a ray tracing mode. Unfortunately, the reflections calculated with it only work in "Forza Vista" mode, in which you can view all the details of the car in the fleet. The feature is deactivated in the actual open world or the races.

"Metro Exodus" first appeared as a "normal" shooter with conventional graphics. Afterwards, however, the Ukrainian developers got to work programming a completely new version for PC and the current consoles, the "Enhanced" Edition, as a free update, which relies entirely on ray tracing for the lighting – and that with 60 frames per Second! This makes the game one of the most technically impressive shooters on the Series X.
