Current sales figures for the »Nintendo Switch« and rumors of a successor

November 9, 2022
It's that time again: Nintendo published new sales figures for the Nintendo Switch. The handheld console sold 114.33 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2022, according to the report. From July to September 2022 alone, a total of 3.25 million Nintendo Switch units and 64 million software units were sold.
While the Nintendo Wii U never posed a big hurdle with 13.56 million sales, the Nintendo Switch overtook the Nintendo Wii earlier this year, which has sold 101.63 million copies. However, there is still a long way to go before the Nintendo DS: With 154.02 million units sold, this is still the undisputed leader of all previous consoles from the Japanese company.
Outside of the Nintendo universe, only the PlayStation 4 with 116.6 million sales and the PlayStation 2 with 155 million sales have surpassed the Nintendo Switch. With around 25 million sales, Sony's PlayStation 5 is very successful, despite ongoing delivery problems. Nothing is known about the sales figures for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S to date.
Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in March 2017, a total of 917.59 million Nintendo Switch games have been sold:

Of course, Nintendo doesn't just indulge in the past and present. We also have to work on the future. Rumors have been circulating on the World Wide Web for years that Nintendo is working on a Switch successor. The rumor mill is now boiling up again due to a current job advertisement from the Pokémon studio Creatures Inc.
In it, the studio is looking for a 3DCG character modeler. What at first glance appears to be a completely normal job posting has one point in it that makes you sit up and take notice. In the job advertisement, for example, the item “Research and development for next-generation hardware” is listed. The studio has contributed to several 3D modeling of various Pokémon games in the past, but also developed its own games, such as Detective Pikachu . Pokémon is an exclusive trademark of Nintendo. So are you suggesting a new Nintendo console here?
