November 6, 2022

Two weeks ago, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night celebrated its theatrical premiere in Japan after some postponements. To shake things up a bit, Aniplex released an action-packed new trailer for the second anime film in the series. You can check it out further down in the article.

The second film Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night has been in Japanese cinemas since October 22, 2022. The same team led by Studio A-1 Pictures and director Ayako Kōno was again responsible for the production.

Nothing is currently known about a possible release of the film in German-speaking countries. So far, not even the first film in the series, which was released in Japan in October 2021, has been shown in local cinemas. If anything becomes known in this regard, you will of course find out from us.

As usual, Yoshitsugu Matusoka and Haruka Tomatsu are back as voices for Kirito and Asuna. New to the main cast is Shiori Izawa as the character Argo " The Rat ". She was previously only briefly seen and heard in the first season of the anime in a small supporting role.

This is what Sword Art Online Progressive is all about:

It's only been two months since they were imprisoned in the Death Game Sword Art Online. Asuna and Kirito continue to strive to be at the forefront of the game. The fifth level of Aincrad is built like a gigantic labyrinth ruin. The two dare to take pleasure in raiding the maze for the treasures within. When they return to the Fourth Floor, they are asked to complete a quest for the elf Lord Yofilis – but this is where things start to get awkward for Asuna, because to complete the quest they have to face their least favorite monster…
