New cinema date of »Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night« announced

As recently reported , the Japanese theatrical premiere of Sword Art Online Progressive 's second feature film had to be postponed due to the nationwide spread of COVID-19. But now, to the delight of all fans, there is finally an alternative date.

As announced on Twitter, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night is scheduled to hit Japanese cinemas on October 22, 2022 . Alongside the announcement, the official Twitter account also unveiled the new visual, which you can find below.

Nothing is currently known about a possible release of the film in German-speaking countries. So far, not even the first film in the series, which was released in Japan in October 2021, has been shown in local cinemas. If anything becomes known in this regard, you will of course find out from us.

As with the first film, the A-1 Pictures studio is again responsible for the production. Ayako Kono acts as director. Kento Toya is in charge of character design and Chief Animation Director, while Yuki Kajiura is providing the film's music. As usual, Yoshitsugu Matusoka and Haruka Tomatsu are back as voices for Kirito and Asuna. New to the main cast is Shiori Izawa as the character Argo " The Rat ". She was previously only briefly seen and heard in the first season of the anime in a small supporting role.

It's only been two months since they were imprisoned in the Death Game Sword Art Online. Asuna and Kirito continue to strive to be at the forefront of the game. The fifth level of Aincrad is built like a gigantic labyrinth ruin. The two dare to take pleasure in raiding the maze for the treasures within. When they return to the Fourth Floor, they are asked to complete a quest for the elf Lord Yofilis – but this is where things start to get awkward for Asuna, because to complete the quest they have to face their least favorite monster…
