Best Fan Heater: Recommended Models & Tips for Buying

Best Fan Heater: Recommended Models & Tips for Buying

Fan heaters have many advantages: They can be used spontaneously and set up in any room. They bring heat to where you need it but don't have radiators or underfloor heating. They ensure pleasant temperatures in the basement, in the garage and in the attic.

However, fan heaters are not suitable for continuous operation because they consume a lot of electricity. It is therefore cheaper to use regular (gas) heaters even in times of crisis. For sporadic heating or, for example, when the heating fails, fan heaters are definitely an option. You should rely on powerful and high-quality devices. In the following you can read which fan heaters are recommended and what you should pay attention to when buying.

What you should consider when buying a fan heater

Even if fan heaters are in short supply due to the current high demand, you should not buy just any device. The best fan heater for you ensures the desired temperature and works as energy-efficiently as possible. You should pay attention to this when buying:

  • Performance: A fan heater should generally heat up an entire room. For this he needs sufficient power. 1,000 to 1,500 watts are sufficient for small rooms. For rooms of around 25 square meters, it should be 2,000 watts.
  • Costs: You can calculate the power consumption of a fan heater. For example, if a device with a maximum output of 1,000 watts runs for one hour, it requires 1 kWh (kilowatt hour) of energy. Electricity providers currently charge between 30 and 60 cents per kilowatt hour. That means: A powerful fan heater with 2,000 watts can cost up to 1.20 euros per hour of operation.
  • Not a full heater: You should be aware that a fan heater is only an addition to a regular heater. Because the costs can skyrocket with continuous operation. Many devices are not designed to run for several hours at a time, seven days a week.
  • Modern technologies: A 2,000 watt fan heater consumes 2 kWh at the highest possible level. You can't change anything about that. However, you can pay attention to the efficiency: In many modern systems, it is significantly higher than, for example, in simple mini fan heaters. Enabling more heat with the same performance:
    • Ceramic heating elements
    • Intelligent, sensor-controlled temperature regulation with thermostats
    • Eco modes for energy efficient operation
    • Certain designs, for example for 360-degree heat distribution
  • For allergy sufferers: Classic fan heaters burn dust, pollen, hair and skin residue with their heating wires inside. Allergy sufferers should therefore use models with PTC (ceramic) heating wires.
  • Wall mounting: Selected fan heaters can be wall mounted, which is ideal for bathrooms and basements. If you want to stay flexible, grab a mobile fan with a sufficiently long cable.
  • Other features: Nowadays, almost all fan heaters offer overheating protection and an anti-tip device. Other useful features are a timer or a timer and a remote control or smartphone app. Devices that rotate independently (oscillation) ensure better distribution of the warm air. An additional cooling function for the summer is also practical. A fan heater can take over the function of a fan here.
