After Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of the Starless Night had a very successful start in Japanese cinemas, the production team announced a sequel about five months ago ( we reported ). A recently released visual (see below) revealed new details about the sequel.
Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night – the title of the second film – will celebrate its theatrical premiere in Japan in autumn 2022. As with the first film, the studio A-1 Pictures is again responsible for the production, with Ayako Kono acting as director. Character design and the position of Chief Animation Director will be in the hands of Kento Toya, while Yuki Kajiura will provide the film's music.
It is not yet known if and when the progressive film series will start in the local cinemas.
The first film premiered in Japan on October 30, 2021 and is based on the light novel series of the same name by SAO author Reki Kawahara and illustrator BUNBUN. In this country, the manga adaptation is published by TOKYOPOP in German.
