The new smartphones will start in January 2022: Samsung will start with the Galaxy S21 FE and OnePlus with the OnePlus 10 Pro. Further highlights from Apple, Google and Co. will follow in the course of the year. Here's an overview.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, which was presented at CES 2022, started with the new smartphones in 2022. The Fan Edition will be launched in four fresh color variants: Olive, Lavender, White and Graphite. Android 12 is on board from the factory. Otherwise, there was little surprise at the presentation, most of the specs had already leaked into the network beforehand.

The Galaxy S21 FE comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display and 120 Hertz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 888, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. The battery has a capacity of 4,500 mAh, the camera is identical to that of the Galaxy S21. The Galaxy S21 FE will be available from January 11th at prices starting at 749 euros.

OnePlus 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro will also be presented in January 2022. At the end of January, the manufacturer will probably first bring the new flagship onto the market in China, and later it should also appear internationally. The OnePlus 10 Pro will be one of the first smartphones in 2022 with a new Qualcomm chip generation , the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

The rumor mill also has the following information ready: a 6.7-inch OLED display with 120 Hertz, a 5,000 mAh battery and 125 watt fast charge, IP68 certification, a main camera with three sensors and a selfie cam in the top left in the display. However, nothing is known about the price.

Huwei P50 Pocket

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 could face direct competition from a Huawei foldable in 2022. The Huawei P50 Pocket was officially presented in China in December 2021, and it should also appear internationally in 2022. After all, there is already an international website for the clamshell phone.

The Huawei P50 Pocket has a 120 Hz AMOLED display that measures 6.9 inches when opened. On the outside there is a second, round display with a size of 1.04 inches, where information such as time and notifications can be read when closed. In addition, the small display should act as a viewfinder for the triple main camera. In China, the foldable smartphone costs around 1,210 euros, a price for Germany is not yet known.

Samsung Galaxy S22

The next smartphone highlight from Samsung could already await us in February 2022: the Galaxy S22 series. Allegedly, the manufacturer will introduce the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 + and Galaxy S22 Ultra on February 8th. The most expensive model, the S22 Ultra, should be particularly interesting. This should not only get the S Pen known from the Note series, but also a camera module with four different sensors – including a 108 megapixel main camera.

The other two Galaxy S22 variants should come with a triple camera on the market. There is no information on prices yet, but on colors : The Galaxy S22 Ultra should appear in black, white, red and green.

Apple iPhone SE 3

It continues with a possible release in March or April – then Apple wants to present a new iPhone SE at a keynote. So fans of the small model series don't have to wait as long as for the 2020 version of the Apple smartphone. After all, four years passed between the launch of the first and second generation. But now the next version is already in the starting blocks – presumably with the A15 chip from the current iPhone 13 models. Visually, the new iPhone SE should be clearly based on the predecessor.

Google Pixel 6a

In 2021, Google was back in the high-end class: The Google Pixel 6 Pro impressed as a contemporary flagship in the TURN-ON test. The slimmed-down mid-range version is due to appear in 2022: the Google Pixel 6a . First render images show a great visual similarity to the expensive model, especially the camera bar with dual camera on the back stands out.

So far, there has only been speculation about the technical data: The Pixel 6a will have a 6.2-inch OLED display with an integrated fingerprint sensor, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 138 GB of internal storage. For the release, the Google I / O in May 22 will be considered at the earliest. But maybe it will also appear at the launch of Android 12.

Google Pixel Fold

In 2021 we waited in vain for a Google Pixel Fold , but this year it could actually be something with a foldable smartphone from Google. In spring, the company could introduce a Pixel Fold together with Android 12L, an Android version specially designed for large screens.

A suitable event for such a launch would also be the Google I / O in May 2022. In view of the fact that there are still no reliable leaks or render images of a Google Pixel Fold, the release of the first Google foldable is significantly less likely than the launch of the Google Pixel 6a. We are still excited.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

While we are still waiting for the international release of the Huawei P50 series in this country, the manufacturer is probably already working on the Huawei Mate 50. The Mate 50 Pro in particular should be interesting – with a supposedly 6.8-inch display and a gigantic 7,000 – mAh battery.

The rumor mill has not yet fully agreed whether a Kirin processor or a Snapdragon chip will work inside. The same applies to the release period: Pocket-lint speaks of a launch in March 2022, Tech Advisor, on the other hand, expects a presentation in autumn – with a subsequent launch initially only in China. In Germany, the Mate 50 Pro could possibly appear at the end of the year.

Apple iPhone 14

The launch period of the iPhone 14 gives less guesswork. We expect the new Apple smartphone in September – with a thorough redesign . According to the Apple rhythm of overhauling the smartphone design every two years, the iPhone 14 should again differ significantly from its predecessor.

Apple could finally say goodbye to the notch and possibly even integrate Touch ID into the display. Something should also change with the camera: At least the Pro models should get a 48-megapixel camera . Speaking of models: Since the iPhone 12 mini turned out to be a slow seller, there will probably not be a mini offshoot of the iPhone 14. Instead, we expect the iPhone 14, an iPhone 14 Max and two iPhone 14 Pro versions.
