CES 2022: These were the 9 strangest announcements

At CES 2022, we heard an overwhelming amount of exciting tech news. The manufacturers have also let off steam with curious innovations such as a sleep tracking lightbulb and a modular gaming table. These are the nine weirdest curiosities at the technology fair.

Razer Zephyr Pro: High-tech face mask with microphones and speakers

The new Razer Zephyr Pro face mask offers microphones and speakers that amplify your own voice. The N95 filters have to be replaced every three days and a package with ten filters costs 35 euros. The Zephyr Pro will hit the US market at an unknown date for around 150 euros.

Razer Project Sophia: Modular gaming table with 77-inch OLED monitor

Razer's Project Sophia is a modular gaming table with an OLED screen of up to 77 inches. There are PC components in the table in the form of interchangeable modules . In addition to processors and graphics cards, this includes a touchscreen, a graphics tablet, a Qi charging pad and other modules such as a beverage warmer. It's unclear whether Razer will bring the table to market.

XMG Oasis: External water cooling for laptops

Water cooling is mainly used for overclocked high-end processors for desktop PCs. XMG has now presented an innovative external water cooling for the new gaming notebook XMG Neo 15 E22. Some future XMG laptops should also have the right connections for cooling. Both the processor and the graphics card are kept at low temperatures and permanently high performance by the water cooling. In addition, the laptop fans can do their work more quietly.

The base model of the XMG Neo 15 E22 with an Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD will be available from the end of January for 2,500 euros. The Oasis water cooling is sold for around 200 euros .

Asus ZenBook 17 Fold OLED: Foldable Windows tablet

The Asus ZenBook 17 Fold OLED is a 17-inch foldable Windows tablet. It takes up the concept of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, the first Windows foldable released in 2021. At 1.6 kilograms, the device is relatively heavy for a tablet, albeit rather light for a 17-inch device. The ZenBook can be folded in half, then a keyboard is attached to one half, and the tablet turns into a laptop. Price and availability remain open, but a market launch is generally planned.

The light bulb called Sengled Smart Health Monitoring Light Bulb can do significantly more than previous smart light bulbs. It uses a radar system to measure the heart rate and body temperature of people nearby. It detects falls and can analyze sleep – for all of this there was the Innovation Award at CES 2022. The light bulb can be used with Samsung SmartThings, Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The market launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022, a price is still pending.

CyberPower Kinetic: A breathing gaming case

CyberPower showed a gaming tower with 18 motorized ventilation openings at the CES. The openings close when the computer does not require much cooling, for example for office applications. When the need arises, such as when gaming, they let air inside. Unfortunately there is apparently no dust filter and the practical advantage compared to a mesh front is difficult to determine. The case is always unique and imaginative. Initially, the "Kinetic" housing is only available as part of CyberPower ready-to-use PCs. If it is well received, the American manufacturer would also like to offer it separately for $ 250.

Samsung Odyssey Ark: 55 inch monitor for portrait use

The Odyssey Ark is a 49 inch gaming monitor in 32: 9 format. It relies on 4K resolution and mini LED lighting for high contrast. There is also a quantum dot layer for a large color space. The monitor can not only be used for gaming, but can also be used upright for productive multitasking . There has never been anything like it. The monitor will be released in the second half of 2022, but a price is still unknown.

The Freestyle: Futuristic mobile projector with power bank connection

Samsung's The Freestyle is a portable full HD projector with voice control for convenient use on the go. It can automatically set the image size and focus, as well as carry out keystone correction . The projection size ranges from 30 to 100 inches. For a 100-inch picture, the projector must be placed 2.7 meters from the screen. With 550 lumens, the DLP projector is not too bright, although this is nothing unusual for a mobile projector. However, it can only be used in a darkened room or at night.

The projector offers the Tizen Smart TV software and a Wi-Fi module, and content can also be sent to the projector via a microHDMI connection. Special features are the 360-degree sound and that the projector can be supplied with power from a power bank while on the move. It is priced at $ 900 with a release scheduled for February 2nd in the US.
