Samsung will again be bringing Neo QLED LCD TVs onto the market in 2022. These are televisions with mini LED backlights that can display many natural colors. The 4K models QN95B (flagship), QN90B and QN85B as well as the 8K TVs QN900B, QN800B and QN700B are planned. PC gamers are happy about the refresh rate of 144 Hertz and thanks to 14 instead of 12 bit brightness levels, the televisions are likely to be able to generate a more accurate HDR image.

Another new feature is the "Shape Adaptive Light" software function, which recognizes lines, shapes and surfaces on image content and can adapt the background lighting to these. The "Real Depth Enhancer" separates objects in the foreground from the background. Also new: All Neo QLED televisions have at least six speakers , matching the built-in Dolby Atmos decoder.

Last but not least, Samsung gave an outlook on a new TV technology: QD-OLED. They are OLED televisions enhanced with Quantum Dots. Advantages: They are brighter, can display more colors and offer even better viewing angle stability. A 65-inch model with the technology received the "Best of Innovation" award from CES 2022. YouTuber Linus was allowed to take a first look at a QD OLED TV from Samsung.

Samsung's new remote control for some of the 2022 TVs collects radio waves from the WiFi router and converts them into electricity . Like its predecessor, it is also equipped with solar cells. If you want to charge the remote control as quickly as possible, you can also do this using a USB-C cable. Samsung would like to contribute to less battery consumption with the remote control.

LG: New OLED TVs from 42 to 97 inches, QNED & OLED.EX

LG presented new OLED televisions at CES 2022. This year, the popular C series is getting the slightly brighter OLED Evo panel, which was reserved for the more expensive G1 series in 2021. The new "C2" range includes 42, 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83 inch diagonals. A highlight here is the long-awaited 42-inch model that many PC gamers have been waiting for . So small OLED TVs have not yet existed and larger ones hardly fit on the desk.

The new OLED TVs again offer HDMI 2.1 connections and can display 4K content from sources such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X at up to 120 frames per second. Nvidia G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) prevent image tears during gaming ("tearing").

The flagship series LG OLED G2 gets better cooling and can thus present OLED content even brighter than the C2 series. Since HDR content is often designed for around 1,000 nits and OLED televisions have so far reached around 700 to 800 nits, this should ensure more impressive HDR. The OLED G2 series will appear in sizes 55 to 97 inches. The new 97-inch model will be the largest OLED television to date and could replace a projector.

Also exciting: The new OLED televisions have an ultra-light housing made of carbon fiber , so the 65-inch LG OLED C2 weighs only about half of its predecessor. The new processor LG Alpha 9 Gen 5, similar to Samsung Real Depth Enhancer, should recognize the subject and make it stand out from the background. The new user interface webOS 22 supports several user profiles so that all viewers can fill the homescreen with their favorite content.

Also new is the inexpensive OLED A2 series , which dispenses with 120 Hertz and HDMI 2.1. There will also be B2 and Z2 series for which LG has not yet given any information. Shortly before the CES, LG presented new OLED.EX panels with a 30 percent higher brightness, as Notebookcheck writes – LG has not yet presented specific TV models with the new OLED technology.

Finally, LG will offer new QNED LCD TVs with mini LED technology. They are similar to Samsung's Neo QLED devices, but with IPS panels instead of VA panels . The flagship among these devices is the LG QNED99 with 8K resolution, 120 Hertz and around 2,500 dimming zones for a precise HDR image. There will also be 4K models in 55 to 86 inches.

There is still no information on the prices and release dates of the new TVs.

Gaming monitors: Odyssey Neo G8 with mini-LED technology & QD-OLED from Alienware

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 is one of the first gaming monitors with 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 240 Hertz . Like the manufacturer's Neo QLED televisions, the 32-inch monitor with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels uses mini-LEDs for backlighting. Together with numerous independently controllable light zones and an HDR peak brightness of 2,000 nits, the monitor with a high-contrast VA panel could enable an impressive HDR display.

There are two HDMI 2.1 connections , for example for PS5 and Xbox Series X, and one DisplayPort 1.4. With the Odyssey Neo G9, Samsung is already offering a 49-inch monitor in ultrawide format for around 2,000 euros, which also uses mini LEDs and 240 Hertz. There is no information on the price or availability of the new Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 yet.

Alienware has announced a gaming monitor with an OLED panel . It's called the Alienware 34 QD-OLED Gaming Display (AW3423DW). This is the first Quantum Dot OLED monitor on the market, whereby the "QD" technology primarily improves the color display in the HDR color space. The monitor measures 34.2 inches and has a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels with a refresh rate of 175 Hertz. But it only achieves this via the DisplayPort 1.4 connection, the two HDMI 2.0 ports allow a maximum of 100 Hertz in the native resolution. The response time is an extremely fast 0.1 milliseconds.

The monitor supports G-Sync Ultimate for smooth gaming without image cracks with Nvidia graphics cards. With SDR content, it shines brightly up to 250 nits, which is sufficient for interiors, with HDR content it can reach a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. It should be able to display the associated DCI-P3 color space up to 99.3 percent, the sRGB color space up to 149 percent. Nevertheless, that's only enough for a DisplayHDR 400 certification.

The OLED monitor for gamers will be launched on April 5, 2022 , and the manufacturer would like to reveal the price shortly before that. Incidentally, with the Odyssey G8QNB, Samsung will offer a technically practically identical OLED monitor as an alternative. Otherwise there is no further information on this.

PC gaming: new chips & graphics cards from AMD, Intel & Nvidia

PC gamers can look forward to the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, which offers an integrated 3D V cache. It is said to be 15 percent faster in full HD games than the Ryzen 9 5900X. AMD also announced six new laptop graphics cards, including the RX 6800M, 6700M and 6600M. The Ryzen 6000 processors for laptops are just as exciting. They reach a clock rate of 5 GHz and offer significantly more powerful integrated graphics with twice as high performance as their predecessors. They support the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling method for higher frame rates.

Nvidia's highlights are probably the RTX 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti laptop graphics cards . The mobile 3070 Ti with 14 GB video memory is supposed to outperform the RTX 2070 Super for laptops by 70 percent and deliver up to 100 FPS in a QHD resolution. The RTX 3080 Ti contains 16 GB of the fastest GDDR6 memory for notebooks to date. According to Nvidia, the graphics card has a higher performance than the Titan RX desktop GPU from the previous generation. The new desktop graphics cards RTX 3050 and RTX 3090 Ti will also come onto the market from Nvidia, even if availability remains an open question in the current chip crisis.

For the first time, Intel will offer its own graphics cards called Intel Arc – also for laptops. They can be found in the Alienware X17, a flagship gaming notebook. And in a Lenovo Yoga Convertible for content producers. In total, the Arc graphics cards are to be installed in over 50 products from various manufacturers, both in notebooks and in desktop PCs.
