Ultra-short throw projector: 5 recommended models for your home theater

Ultra-short throw projector: 5 recommended models for your home theater

Ordinary projectors have to be placed several meters away from the actual screen – ultra-short throw projectors, on the other hand, do not. These can sometimes stand directly in front of a wall and convince with brilliant pictures. Here are five recommended projectors of this type.

Hisense H100LDA

Until a few years ago, ultra-short throw projectors were hardly affordable – at least this is still the case today for models with native 4K resolution. The Hisense device, which costs around € 7,500, throws images in the crisp, sharp resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels onto the 100-inch frame screen that is included in the delivery.

The Hisense H100LDA not only scores with a high resolution, but also with an impressive contrast ratio of 30,000: 1. With 3,000 lumens, the projector projects its images sufficiently bright to be able to enjoy television even in a not completely darkened environment. The manufacturer specifies the service life of the lamps as 25,000 operating hours. The operating volume is 32 dB, slightly louder than the ticking of a wristwatch.

The ultra-short distance projector is not light, however, with a weight of around 60 kilograms. With dimensions of 224 x 127 x 80 centimeters, the model is comparatively large. The scope of delivery also includes a wireless subwoofer, and the projector also cuts a fine figure on the connection side: a total of four HDMI connections offer sufficient options for connecting players such as receivers or consoles. A USB port is available as well as a LAN connection. For a price of around 10,000 euros, only financially strong movie buffs should be enthusiastic about the device.

The ultra-short throw projector TX-126 from Technaxx has an integrated 1.5 watt loudspeaker and offers a projection size of 7 inches to 120 inches at a distance of 0.2 to 2.5 meters. The native resolution, however, is only 854 x 480 pixels. The contrast ratio of 1000: 1 and the brightness of 100 lumens cannot keep up with the values of other ultra-short throw projectors. The projector is connected to the computer, tablet, smartphone or console via mini HDMI. In addition, video, photo and audio files can also be played back from a micro SD card.

If you want to spend less than 500 euros on an ultra-short throw projector, you have to accept compromises in terms of equipment. In this case, for example, with the resolution, which in this model is only 1,280 x 800 pixels, which is more than sufficient for presentations, for example. This projector can also project a 100-inch image onto the wall from a meter away.

The device achieves a brightness of 800 lumens, so the room should be darkened better so that the contents can be seen clearly. According to the manufacturer, the lamps have an operating time of up to 20,000 hours.

Content can be viewed using a microSD memory card or a USB memory stick, and thanks to MHL support, it can also be viewed using mobile devices that are compatible with MHL technology.
