Soundbar with subwoofer: 7 models with rich bass

Soundbar with subwoofer: 7 models with rich bass

A lot of noise in movies and games: many soundbars come with a wireless subwoofer. It provides rich bass, which a soundbar alone is usually too weak for. We are introducing seven soundbars with integrated subwoofers for around 250 to 1,000 euros.

Yamaha YAS-207: Good and affordable stereo soundbar

The Yamaha YAS-207 relies on a 2.1 configuration, which means stereo sound plus a subwoofer. The soundbar does not get along well with surround channels; these are downmixed to stereo or virtual surround sound. If you don't need real surround sound, the Yamaha YAS-207 is a recommended soundbar with good stereo sound and a subwoofer for decent bass. More something for TV shows and music than for movies.

Connectivity : The soundbar with subwoofer offers Bluetooth, an HDMI input, a jack connection and an optical input.

Like its predecessor, the YAS-207, the Yamaha YAS-209 is a stereo soundbar with a subwoofer. That said, it's better for TV shows and music than Hollywood movies and games with surround sound. After all, there is virtual surround sound on request. The HDMI output and the WLAN connection for Alexa voice control are new. The HDMI output allows HDR content to be passed on to the TV. In addition, Yamaha has given the new edition a more modern design.

Connectivity : One HDMI In, one HDMI Out and one optical input, as well as Bluetooth and WLAN.

There is no real surround sound, but the immersion is improved a lot by the additional speakers.

Connectivity : There is an HDMI input and output with eARC, so Dolby Atmos can be transmitted. Bluetooth, WLAN, optical input, jack input and a USB port for the music collection are also on board.

Samsung HW-Q80R: Compact 5.1.2 system

Real 3D sound from a single loudspeaker bar? The Samsung HW-Q80R tries to square the circle by placing the surround speakers on the sides and the height speakers on top. The sound from the height speakers bounces off the ceiling at an angle, the side speakers radiate it diagonally against the walls. The sound waves then find their way to the listener – provided the soundbar is well placed in the room. The result is a 3D sound that does not come close to that with separate Dolby Atmos speakers, but leaves virtual surround sound behind.

Connectivity : The connections are also impressive: 2 x HDMI In and 1 x HDMI Out with eARC, an optical input and jack connection as well as Bluetooth, USB and WLAN.

The Samsung HW-Q90R is a 7.1.4 system. The soundbar contains stereo speakers, center speakers, two height speakers and two side speakers. In addition, the two rear speakers supplied each also contain drivers radiating upwards. The result is a wireless Dolby Atmos system that could hardly be better implemented as a soundbar.

Connectivity : The connections largely correspond to those of Samsung's HW-Q80R: 2 x HDMI In and 1 x HDMI Out with eARC, an optical input as well as Bluetooth and WLAN. However, USB and jack connections are missing.
