The two new flagship smartphones OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are official. The professional camera manufacturer Hasselblad was involved in the camera optimization. Otherwise, the Pro model in particular contains everything that is possible in terms of high-end technology.

The OnePlus 9 Pro wants to challenge the best camera smartphones. Modern Sony sensors and optimization by the professionals at Hasselblad are primarily used for this purpose. The OnePlus 9 Pro contains a Sony IMX789, which is relatively large at 1 / 1.4 inches. It offers features such as 12-bit RAW photos, DOL-HDR for better sensitivity in low light and the 2×2 on-chip lens, which primarily improves autofocus performance. The resolution is 48 megapixels. Hasselblad was responsible for the sensor calibration and the software, in particular the color representation should be very precise.

That being said, the Pro model offers an ultra-wide-angle camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels, an 8-megapixel camera for 3.3x optical zoom and a monochrome camera that improves contrast. The phone can record 4K videos at 120 frames per second (FPS) and 8K videos at 30 FPS. The selfie camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels. The AMOLED display measures 6.7 inches and has a refresh rate of 120 Hertz for smooth movements when scrolling and gaming. The display resolution is 3,216 x 1,440 pixels.

A Snapdragon 888 with 5G modem is responsible for the performance, accompanied by either 8 or 12 GB of RAM. So there are two models that also differ in the internal memory of 128 or 256 GB. The 4,500 mAh battery can be charged with 65 watts via cable or 50 watts wirelessly. With Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, the latest wireless standards are on board.

The OnePlus 9 saves a bit on high-end features here and there, but the cuts are mostly moderate. The main camera of the OnePlus 9 also has a resolution of 48 megapixels, but the older Sony IMX689 sensor, which is already known from the OnePlus 8 Pro, is installed here. There is also the 50-megapixel camera for ultra-wide-angle shots, which the Pro model also offers, and the monochrome sensor. There is also a 16-megapixel camera for selfies on board. With the OnePlus 9, Hasselblad was also involved in sensor calibration, color matching and software.

The AMOLED display is slightly smaller at 6.55 inches and only has a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, but also offers a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. The Snapdragon 888 processor with 5G modem remains. The OnePlus 9 is also available as a model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage and as a model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Fast charging of the 4,500 mAh battery works with 65 watts via cable, but only wirelessly with 15 watts.

The OnePlus 9 also has Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6. The OnePlus 9 Pro offers the greatest advantages with the high-end main camera and with wireless fast charging at higher speeds.

Price and release

The OnePlus 9 Pro will be available from March 31, the OnePlus 9 from April 26. The 128 GB model of the OnePlus 9 will be in stores for 700 euros, the 256 GB model for 800 euros. The 128 GB model of the OnePlus 9 Pro costs 900 euros and the 256 GB model costs 1,000 euros. The 50 watt wireless charger costs an additional 70 euros.
