Set up Google Alert: This is how it works

Thanks to Google Alert, you will always be informed immediately about certain topics by email. Setting up a Google Alert works in no time and ensures that you stay up to date. Here you can find out how to proceed.

Google Alerts are free notifications by email on specific topics and words that you define yourself. Of course, you can change or unsubscribe from a Google alert at any time.

Create Google Alert

  1. To do this, first go to the Google Alerts page in your browser.
  2. Now enter the desired topic on which you would like to receive information in the search field.
  3. In the lower area you can see a preview of the alert based on current reports.
  4. Click on "Options" to customize the Google Alert according to your needs.
  5. Here you can define the frequency of the alert, as well as the language or the number of results.
  6. If you have set everything, click on "Create alert" to receive e-mail notifications on this subject from now on.

Edit Google Alert

  1. Open the Google Alerts page in your browser.
  2. Choose the alert you want to edit.
  3. If you don't see any options yet, click on "Options".
  4. Now you can edit the alert as you wish.
  5. Click on "Update Alert" to save the changes.
  6. You can change the alert options via "Settings".
  7. Then select "Save".

Clear Google Alert

  1. Open the Google Alerts page in your browser.
  2. Select the alert you want to delete and click the delete icon next to its name.
  3. You can also delete a Google Alert at any time directly in the email using the "Unsubscribe" link.

You can do that in case of problems

Are you having problems with the Google Alerts? Then first go to the alert overview page . Make sure you are signed in with the correct Google account. If this is not the case, click on the profile picture and select "Log out". Then log in with the correct Google account.

If your Google Alerts have been deactivated, click on "Activate" on the overview page. In the "My Alerts" section, select the notifications for which you would like to continue receiving results. You can check your e-mail address and settings under "Show options" and change them if necessary.
