Windows tablet with keyboard: 5 recommended devices

Windows tablets with keyboard combine two device classes because they also serve as laptops. We present five current devices in this category that are worth taking a look at.

If you are looking for a good Windows tablet with a keyboard, you currently don't have that much choice, but you can still use a small pool of really recommendable devices. We introduce five devices that are definitely worth a look.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7

The Surface Pro 7 with Windows 10 was introduced at the end of 2019, but is still one of the top devices when it comes to Windows tablets with a keyboard. Equipped with a high-quality 12.3-inch screen and powered by Intel Core processors of the tenth generation, the Pro-7 model series also scores with high-quality workmanship. The surface-typical magnesium housing with the infinitely adjustable kickstand not only looks chic, but is also extremely stable.

The integrated Windows Hello camera, which is not only suitable for video conferences, but also supports face recognition for unlocking, is also practical. Another plus point: You can make pen entries with the optional Surface Pen and benefit from its over 4000 pressure levels. However, the pen and the very good keyboard are not part of the normal scope of delivery of the Surface Pro 7. Both must be purchased separately for the tablet.

Microsoft Surface Pro X (2020)

One of the best alternatives to the Surface Pro 7 comes from Microsoft itself, in the form of the Surface Pro X. The 13-inch device is slightly larger and noticeably slimmer than its sister model and is even completely fanless. This is made possible by the built-in SQ2 processor, which Microsoft developed together with Qualcomm on an ARM basis. Compared to the usual Intel chips, it works more energy-efficiently and ensures particularly long battery life. However, it is nowhere near as fast as the Intel chips in the Surface Pro 7.

In addition, not all apps and programs have yet been adapted to the SQ2 processor, so it can happen that not every Windows application can be run on the Surface Pro X without problems. In particular, 64-bit programs are not yet executable. Microsoft wants to add an advanced emulator in spring 2021 and eliminate this problem. As with the Surface Pro 7, the keyboard and pen of the Pro X can be purchased separately.

Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i

Lenovo is currently one of the few manufacturers who dare to challenge Microsoft. The Yoga Duet 7i is a tablet-laptop hybrid that is similar to the Surface Pro 7 in many ways. The stylish device comes in an aluminum-magnesium housing and, like the Surface, has a built-in stand. The supplied keyboard scores with an unusual but stylish fabric cover.

The 13-inch display with a 16:20 aspect ratio has a QHD resolution and the built-in Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors ensure fast performance. In addition to a click port, there is also an SD card reader and a total of three USB-C ports, two of which also support image transfers via DisplayPort 1.2 and can be used for charging. Just like the keyboard, the input pen is also included with the Yoga Duet 7i.

Microsoft Surface Go 2

The Surface Go 2 ranks at least two classes below the Surface Pro range in terms of price and performance. The 10.5-inch device is supplied with an Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y or an Intel Core m3 processor and either 4 or 8 GB of RAM. The internal memory is 64 or 128 GB depending on the equipment and can be expanded using a micro SD card.

The Surface Go 2 is particularly suitable for surfing the net, for media consumption and for working with Office and similar programs. However, computing or graphics-intensive tasks can only be managed to a limited extent with the device. In addition, the very good clip-on keyboard and the optional Surface Pen can also be purchased separately for this device.

Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3i

The IdeaPad Duet i3 is aimed at beginners with its workmanship, equipment and performance. For relatively little money, there is not only a 10.3-inch tablet with an Intel Celeron processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of data storage, but also the keyboard included.

Since the clip-on keyboard also has Bluetooth in addition to a pin connector, it can also be disconnected from the device if desired and still used for writing. This increases the flexibility of the device enormously. However, due to the relatively weak hardware equipment, the tablet can be used for typing, but is also not suitable as a work device for more complex software.
