We analyze the new Redmi AirDots 2 from Xiaomi, better than the first generation?
A few weeks ago Xiaomi presented the Redmi AirDots 2 in China as an improved version of its famous Redmi AirDots wireless headphones. A new generation that stands out again for its price and that we analyze today in a complete review.
For about 15 euros, the Redmi AirDots 2 from Xiaomi become an ideal option if what you are looking for is whether or not a wireless headset and at the same time spend as little as possible . Of course, we cannot forget that we are dealing with really cheap headphones so their sound quality is lower than that of the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 SE .
Still, for its price it is quite difficult to find better headphones . And, as with any other product, these Redmi AirDots 2 have certain positive characteristics and at the same time several negative points that you should undoubtedly know.
Unboxing and first impression of Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 2
After opening the Redmi AirDots 2 box, we will find a small user manual, two pairs of extra earplugs and the headphones themselves inside their charging case. As you may have already imagined, Xiaomi is once again selling us these headphones without a charging cable .

Contents of the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 2 box.
Like the previous generation, the Redmi AirDots 2 are presented in a completely black minimalist design case. At the top it adds the signature logo, while at the back a microUSB port is added through which we will charge.
Inside the charging case we will find the two wireless headphones; the right and the left. These have an earbuds design and an individual weight of just 4.2 grams that make them really light and comfortable to wear for several hours.
On the surface of each headset we will find a physical button that will help us to pause or resume the music, as well as to invoke the voice assistant. In addition, these add two small terminals for their load and a microphone in each of them.
To indicate its charge status, a small LED is located on its surface that will change color depending on whether it is synchronized (white) or whether it is charging (red). Unlike what happened with the first generation, the synchronization between the two is much easier without presenting any type of problem.
Technical characteristics and sound quality
In detail, Xiaomi's Redmi AirDots 2 have a 7.2mm dynamic driver , also adding reduction of ambient noise through its DSP . This in combination with its earbuds format makes the insulation from the outside really good.
At the same time, these headphones make use of a Bluetooth 5.0 connection, one of the main differences compared to its first generation that made use of a Bluetooth 4.2 connection. As a result, after half an hour playing Call of Duty Mobile we can say that Xiaomi has managed to greatly improve its latency or lag and that they do not have AAC audio technology.
So far all the good because really its sound quality does not go beyond what we can expect for wireless headphones at this price. If what we are looking for is to listen to music, we will come across disembodied bass and overly canned mids and highs .
In itself, the Redmi AirDots 2 are likely to sound better than other wireless headphones in the same price range. In the same way, these headphones are designed to play games, watch movies or series, train, listen to podcasts or simply not to disturb others.
And it's not that they're bad, it's that for 15 euros we can't expect wireless headphones that are good for listening to our favorite music in great detail. For this, it is necessary to go to a higher range or to wired headphones.
Synchronization and other functionalities
Unlike the first generation Redmi AirDots, the new Redmi AirDots 2 do not present problems of synchronization or pairing with each other . Xiaomi has greatly improved this section, ensuring that its Bluetooth pairing is performed flawlessly with our smartphone.
Once connected manually, for the following uses we will only have to remove them from their case so that they are connected automatically. In just 2 or 3 seconds they will be correctly connected and we can enjoy the desired content.
That if, unlike what happens with the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 SE or the Mi Air 2 TWS, the Redmi AirDots are not capable of detecting when we have removed them from the ear . For the music to stop playing automatically we will have to insert them in their case and they start to load.
What does work really well and more intuitively than other headphones of the brand is its physical button incorporated in each headset. Thanks to this we can perform the following functions:
- Accept calls: press any headset once.
- Activate voice assistant: double press any headset.
- Play or pause music: tap any headset once
Autonomy, battery life
As far as autonomy is concerned, the Redmi AirDots 2 offer up to 4 hours of uninterrupted playback as long as we do not have them with the volume at maximum. And is that if we use them to the maximum, they offer a total duration of approximately 3 hours .
Of course, thanks to its charging case and its 300mAh we will get an extra charge of up to 12 hours since each earphone has a total of 43mAh. As a negative point, still being a new generation, the Redmi AirDots 2 once again incorporate a microUSB charging port.
Conclusion, have the Redmi AirDots 2 really improved?
The truth is that the Redmi AirDots 2 have improved, they do not do so in sound but incorporating Bluetooth 5.0 connection. Thanks to this, its latency is greatly reduced compared to the result offered by the Bluetooth 4.2 of the Redmi AirDots.
Beyond that, Xiaomi's Redmi AirDots 2 have the same design, autonomy and functionality as its first generation. In addition, their sound remains the same, poor in bass and with canned mids and highs that do not make them ideal for listening to music but for watching multimedia content or playing games.
Without going any further, the new Redmi AirDots 2 wireless headphones present the following strengths :
- Unbeatable timing. Its Bluetooth 5.0 connection is fast, stable and with almost no latency.
- More than enough autonomy for average use.
- Adjusted price that make them the best in their price range.
- More intuitive physical buttons than tactile ones.
- Good latency results in shooter-type games.
Even so, before buying the Redmi AirDots 2 we must bear in mind that they have several negative points . Of course, we cannot forget that we are facing very cheap wireless headphones:
- They do not include charging cable.
- It integrates a microUSB port in the middle of 2020.
- The hinge of the case gives a feeling of being fragile although with good care it can last for many years.
- Rough materials and fair quality.
- Bodyless bass and overly canned mid and high frequencies.
In short, if your budget is tight and you still want wireless headphones, the Redmi AirDots 2 do very well for their price. These provide good results when watching movies or series, as well as when enjoying all kinds of games.
On the other hand, if what you are looking for are headphones to mainly listen to music, our recommendations is that at least you start with the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 SE or in your case with wired headphones.
Redmi AirDots 2 Analysis (Review)
Notable
The Redmi AirDots 2 become a good option if we are looking for wireless headphones at the lowest possible price. Their latency has been improved compared to the first generation but they maintain the same low quality when it comes to playing music. An ideal option to watch movies or series and of course, to play.
