Reset Sonos: This is how it works with One, Play: 1, Play: 5 & Co.

You want to reset your Sonos, because the speaker is transferred to another owner or should be registered with another e-mail address? We explain how the factory reset works.

To understand, resetting a Sonos speaker to factory settings is a bit different than a simple reboot. Resetting will completely erase all stored information from the player, such as music services, Sonos playlists, and music library shares. The removed information can not be recovered.

On reboot, however, the speaker will only be turned off and on, leaving the data intact. Sonos does not recommend factory reset as a troubleshooting tool.

For example, if you replace your router or simply move the Sonos speaker to a different location, a simple reboot is enough. Resetting the Sonos speaker is not necessary in this case.

How to restart a Sonos player:

  1. Remove the power cord from the power outlet or from the back or bottom of the Sonos player.
  2. Wait about 10 seconds for the device to completely shut down, then plug it back in.
  3. Wait a minute for the player to restart.
  4. If the player was previously set up, it should be automatically reconnected once the boot sequence is complete.

The Sonos Play: 1 is reset a little differently than the Sonos One.

Sonos reset to factory settings: A guide

Sonos Play: 1, Sonos Play: 3, Sonos Play: 5 (1st generation), Sonos Connect, Sonos Connect: amp, Sonos Playbar and Symfonisk:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Hold down the play / pause button while plugging the power cord into the wall outlet.
  3. Continue to press the play / pause button until the light starts flashing orange and white.
  4. After resetting, the indicator flashes green. This indicates that the device has been reset and can be added back to the Sonos ecosystem.

Sonos One, Sonos Play: 5 (2nd Generation), Sonos Boost, Sonos Bridge, Sonos Sub, Sonos Playbase, Sonos Amp and Sonos Beam:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Hold down the connect button while plugging the power cord into the power outlet.
  3. Continue to hold down the connect button until the light starts flashing orange and white.
  4. After resetting, the indicator flashes green. This indicates that the product has been reset and can be added back to the Sonos ecosystem.
